Yeh Raha Dil is falling flat as a pancake

I am upset that I had to write a review on Yeh Raha Dil because I seriously thought that the drama won’t get to that point of promoting such wrong morals.

Yeh Raha Dil airs on Hum TV (Monday at 8:00 PM). The main protagonist is Hayat (Yumna Zaidi) her mother has passed away and she is living all alone in a bungalow at Tariq Road Karachi. What I just said is bizarre enough but wait, there is more. So, Hayat trusts her friend Salman (Daniyal Afzal) & his wife Ragni (Hira Hussain) so much that she literally went to Nepal on a vacation they booked for her. There she met Zaki (Ahmed Ali), the likable rich boy who is dating Nida (Anam Ahmed) back home. And since these two are the main lead, destiny took some twists and turns and somehow, they became friends. Hayat’s friend Salman sold her house to some broker and went to an unknown place along with his equally mischievous wife. Let’s pause here for a while. Okay first things first, no-matter how brave or gutsy of a girl you are, living alone in a bungalow at Tariq Road is utter lunacy. Every Karachite is quite evident of the fact that the city still has a high crime rate where burglars do a thorough Reiki of the area first and then set their trap. Won’t they know by now that there is a young girl of age 26-27 living all alone having no family alive of her own residing with herself. It is quite unbelievable that she hasn’t been looted yet. Secondly, how can you be so dumb to trust your friend this much? I do give it a benefit of doubt though because yes, foolishness exists and unfortunately, in a wide number.

Story prolongs further. Hayat and Zaki are back to Pakistan where they got to know that Hayat’s house is sold to Zaki’s father (Arjumand Hussain) and Hayat’s father (Imran Peerzada) who abandoned her during childhood is Nida’s dad as well. Thus, making Hayat and Nida the conventional duo of unmatched step siblings. Now Zaki who has been dating Nida since long, fought his parents to marry her and even disliked Hayat for being a reason for their near break-up due to her silliness. But he is now…Ladies and Gentlemen….in love with Hayat. How do you fall in and out of love so randomly? Nida has sensed it obviously and is now making evil plans to create differences. And Nida is the vamp here because she is going against her sweet sibling who had such a terrible childhood. WTF I mean! That guy is freaking two timing in a way. If you see your man flirting or having feelings for any other girl, irrespective of your relationship with her, wouldn’t you act the same? Also, Nida’s character is the mediocre snobby rich model who is unable to have an adult conversation. We already are a nation of generating stereotypes and busy in reinforcing them time after time. Earlier in the drama, Zaki’s father was shown having a discussion with his wife regarding his son’s inconsistency to maintain relationships. He goes through a phase and thinks that love has arrived. Later, he loses his interest and moves ahead. I mean, Kudos to Nida for putting up with such a guy. The right way would have been that somebody should have counselled her to leave that mercurial brat and find some sensible man.

And then again, since Nida grew up being Daddy’s Princess, it would technically make her pompous or uppity. Bull Shit! She is shown an independent career-oriented young model trying to balance her relationship along with her work. What is so wrong with that? We live in a society where men are intimidated by strong, opinionated women. Rishta Aunties are often seen advising such ladies to either leave their jobs or practice being more ‘dependent’ type since it makes them look more appealing. Don’t you think a man being intimated have got anything to do with the women being too strong? It’s more about the guy being too weak. An insecure man has the capacity to drag you down quicker than a crack head would. Hayat being the gullible kind of girl is what caught Zaki’s eyes maybe and yes, match made in heaven. Sad is that Zaki’s father, who himself was worried about his son being temperamental, is encouraging his son to ditch Nida and marry Hayat. No-one would want a self-confident bahu right? Unfortunate to see that even after years of disastrous incidents, women still are taught to be naïve.

The storyline has become quite predictable now. It is hinting towards Hayat’s colleague developing a love interest towards her. Currently he is shown on an ego trip but like all the stale plots, this puffed-up dude would melt down and fall for her. But that doesn’t matter because in the end, it seems highly probable that Hayat would realize how much she loves her sister’s long-term boyfriend and will get married to him. Nevertheless, ratings ahead:

Storyline: 2/5
